HSBC appoints McKay to head corporate and institutional

(21 April 2006 – Australia) HSBC has appointed Tom McKay as head of corporate and institutional banking for Australasia.McKay previously headed up the bank’s debt finance group and was a director of the bank’s resources and energy sector division. He joined HSBC in 2004 from Commonwealth Bank, where he was head of the energy and power group.

Before joining CBA, McKay was a director of the project finance and advisory group at Deutsche Bank. He also worked at UBS in Australia and the UK.

McKay has replaced Mike Baird who has swapped banking for politics and is running for Liberal Party preselection in the seat of Manly in Sydney in 2006.

HSBC chief executive Stuart Davis said McKay would bring a strategic focus to the role following 20 years of corporate banking experience with a wide range of financial institutions.

“Tom’s experience, combined with HSBC’s global edge, will continue to provide our corporate and institutional clients in Australia with best-of-breed banking products and practices from around the world,” Davis said.
