(23 April 2012 – New Zealand) TSB Bank is giving the larger Australian-owned banks a run for their mobile money after launching a smartphone app that contains several new features not available on the bigger banks apps yet.The bank launched “(my)bank app” for the iPhone, which includes the ability to personalise appearance, security levels, and even the name of the bank itself. Users have the ability to choose from a library of “widgets”, including social media functions and foreign exchange calculators.

Marie Collins, technology services manager, who held responsibility for the project, said the concept required a change in mindset.

“One of our core philosophies … was that it wasn’t about the bank telling customers what they wanted- it was about the customers being able to tell us,” Ms Collins said.

The bank has achieved this through enabling users to place feedback and encouraging them to vote on current projects, as well as submit ideas for new developments.

Bank of New Zealand this week announced an improved log-in for its application for users.

TSB’s (my)bank app has a sliding security scale, with a unique username and password as the default setting offering even greater functionality.

Users can then set up a pin number log-in for speedier access, or choose to view account balances and transactions without having to log in at all.
