NCR moves to eliminate ATM downtime

(24 August 2005 – Australia) NCR has released new technology designed to keep automated teller machines (ATMs) consistently up and running.Called High Availability Services, the technology is designed primarily to identify and predict reasons for ATM reliability and effectiveness.

NCR said the technology will capture data such as transaction volumes, ATM downtime, the effectiveness and quality of currency and cash management.

It will also monitor the effectiveness of the ATM help desk, the hours the ATM is accessible and operating, and even the quality of the cash inside the machine.

NCR said this level of data was typically lost in the network, slowing down the response from ATM service engineers.

The new technology means technicians can be sent to repair ATMs either immediately or before problems occur, with the correct mechanical parts.

“Not only is the technician dispatched more quickly, the technician has greater incident detail,” NCR said.

“The result is maximum availability for financial institutions and their customers, thereby maximising the return on investment made in the ATM channel,” the company said.
