New appointments at ANZ in structured debt and personal

(9 September 2005 – Australia) ANZ has made a raft of appointments including a new head of Structured Debt.Christina Tonkin has joined the bank from Westpac to head the bank’s structured debt financing business, where she will report to managing director, Corporate and Structured Financing, Cathryn Carver.

Tonkin follows recent appointment Julie Hunter who also left Westpac to head ANZ’s Debt Capital Markets division.

ANZ has made four new appointments in its Personal division.

David Curren is the new head of Operations and Transformation, reporting to group managing director, Personal, Brian Hartzer. Curren has joined ANZ from Bank of America where he was president, Debt Cancellation Corporation. This followed a long career with General Electric in the US, Australia and the UK.

Geoff Cohen has been appointed to the new role of managing director, Investment and Insurance Products, moving across from his previous position as head of Mergers & Acquisition at ANZ.

Cohen will be responsible for financial planning, margin lending, insurance, ANZ trustees and will preside over the bank’s joint venture with ING as well as its investment in E*TRADE.

John Daley has moved to head of Margin Lending and E*TRADE from his previous role as group general manager, Group Strategic Development. He joined ANZ in 2002 from McKinsey. He will report to Cohen.

Mary Phibbs has moved to the bank from KPMG to take up the role of head of Risk. At KPMG, she worked in the Risk Advisory practice. Before this, Phibbs worked at National Australia Bank as general manager, Risk, for the MLC business.
