(13 March 2025 – Japan) Nomura Holdings has announced its withdrawal from the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), following a similar move by Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and mirroring an earlier exodus by major Wall Street banks.
A company spokesperson stated that Nomura will “continue to tailor our approach to decarbonisation to the evolving rules and economic backdrop in different regions and countries in which we operate.”
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Mizuho Financial Group remain in the alliance, as NZBA members prepare to vote on a revised strategy that could ease climate commitments over the coming weeks.
