Postie loses BoS customer information

UK
Bank of Scotland
Operations, Security & fraud

(6 June 2007 – UK) A computer disc containing the personal information of more than 60,000 Bank of Scotland customers has been lost by the Royal Mail in the UK.The disc contained names, addresses, dates of birth and mortgage account numbers for 62,000 BoS customers. However, there were no bank account details, PINs, passwords or transaction data on the disc.

BoS sent the disc to a credit reference agency a fortnight ago via snail mail but it never arrived.

The bank said it had written to customers whose details were on the disc to apologise and reassure them that the risk of fraud was low.

BoS has reported the lost disc to the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the Information Commissioner.
