RBS boosts Australian Markets business

(8 April 2010 – Australia) The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced a number of key hires to the bank’s Australian Markets business, including the appointment of Jon Linto as the firm’s new Head of Fixed Income Currencies and Commodities.Mr Linton was previously head of Euro Delta Trading in London and as part of his new role will be responsible for building the bank’s European Rates Trading business.

The bank has also appointed John Cummins as Co-Head of Markets for Australia, with responsiblilty for over 60 staff across Sales, Trading and Research.

Mr Cummins, previously RBS’s head of Corporate Risk Solutions, will act alongside his Co-Head of Markets counterpart for Equities in Australia, Graeme Pratt.

Stephen Williams, country executive and head of Global Banking and Markets Australia said in a statement that RBS is very fortunate to have drawn on senior offshore talent within RBS to bolster the Australian Markets team.

Both John Cummins and Jon Linton have significant expertise in large, sophisticated markets, across many products and the bank recognises they have the drive to take RBS’s Markets business forward, Mr Williams said.

RBS has also announced the appointment of Emma Phillips to Head of Corporate Risk Solutions. Ms Phillips has 15 years of experience and has previously covered rates, foreign exchange and commodities within RBS’s Markets business.

Keith Chui also joins the bank from Morgan Stanley in the role of Director, AUD/NZD Delta Rates Trading and Majella Gallagher, a previous employee of ABN AMRO, has been appointed to a Senior FX Sales position in Corporate Risk Solutions, based in the Sydney office.

Mr. Williams highlighted that the recent appointments reinforce the bank’s ongoing commitment to the Australian business and, in particular, to its Markets business, where RBS sees huge growth potential over the coming three to five years.
