(19 July 2022 – Singapore) Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has announced Priya Bellino as the group’s new head of environmental, social and governance (ESG) solutions for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

Joining the Bank from EY where she was a member of its sustainable finance business consulting practice, advising banks, asset managers and insurers, Bellino will be based in Singapore and report to managing director and APAC deputy head of corporate banking David Koh. Bellino is SMBC’s second regional ESG head in a year following the departure of Ghislaine Nadaud, who joined in May 2021. Nadaud has since moved to asset management firm Robeco to set up its APAC sustainability team.

She previously ran her own sustainability consultancy, Aquabaleno, which offered training and capacity building for sustainable finance and sustainability reporting services. Bellino spent 17 years with Goldman Sachs in various roles including head of the APAC risk engineering department, managing portfolio analytics, capital exposure monitoring and risk metrics reporting.

“Our ESG mission and targets are clearer than ever, and we are delighted to have Priya onboard to help lead our sustainability efforts across Asia Pacific. Priya’s strong expertise and keen understanding of the sustainable finance space in the region adds to SMBC’s strength in this domain. Together with the bank’s growing efforts and investment into sustainability, we will continuously deliver best-in-class ESG innovations and solutions for our customers as they embark on their climate transition journey” SMBC Deputy Head of Corporate Banking, David Koh commented on her appointment.
