SMBC Hires New Head of TB Product for APAC

(26 August 2024 – Singapore) Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has appointed Atul Bhuchar as the head of transaction banking product for its Asia Pacific Division, based in Singapore.

This strategic appointment aligns with SMBC’s efforts to enhance its transaction banking services across the region, aiming to support clients in managing working capital and fortifying their value chains. Atul’s team will focus on delivering innovative solutions to help businesses grow securely and confidently across different geographies.

In his new role, Atul will oversee the Asia Pacific transaction banking team, specifically focusing on cash and trade products. He will be responsible for managing product development initiatives, including the lifecycle management of new products and services, from conceptualization to commercialisation and customisation. His leadership is expected to drive the growth and evolution of SMBC’s transaction banking offerings in the region.

Atul Bhuchar brings over 27 years of experience in the banking industry to SMBC, having held senior roles at DBS, HSBC, Citibank, and Partior. His recent experience at Partior, where he led the development of global financial infrastructure using blockchain technology and regulated digital currencies, positions him as a key asset to SMBC. Atul will report to Shinichiro Yamazaki, head of the global transaction banking department for Asia Pacific.
