(7 February 2025 – Asia) The corporate cash and payments landscape in Asia is undergoing a major transformation, with new research revealing that one in four of the region’s top corporates are planning to switch banking providers in the next six months.
East & Partners’ Asia Cash and Payments research shows while Standard Chartered, HSBC, Citi, and DBS continue to dominate the market, increasing competition, digital disruption, and evolving client expectations are putting immense pressure on banks to rethink their corporate transaction strategies. CFOs and treasurers are no longer satisfied with traditional banking services – they expect real-time payments, AI-driven liquidity insights, embedded finance capabilities, and ESG-aligned cash management solutions. Those that fail to adapt risk losing market share in a rapidly shifting environment.
At the same time, banks are facing a paradox – corporates are increasingly multibanking, yet mind share and relationship strength remain key differentiators. Standard Chartered leads in wallet share (62.4%), while HSBC enjoys the highest mind share (30.2%), but will these advantages be enough?
Our research shows that customer experience, not just pricing, is becoming the deciding factor in switching decisions. Corporate clients are seeking greater integration across liquidity, FX, and credit services, alongside stronger advisory support in areas like cybersecurity, compliance, and payments innovation. The banks that successfully deliver on these needs will not only retain existing clients but also capture new ones in an increasingly fluid market.
So, where does your institution stand? As competition intensifies, banks must move beyond transactional relationships and focus on proactive engagement, digital excellence, and strategic cross-selling. The ability to interpret market shifts, anticipate corporate needs, and tailor banking solutions accordingly will be critical to success. Our Asia Cash & Payments service provides the insights needed to navigate this evolving space, identify areas of competitive strength, and seize growth opportunities.
