Three more UK banks sign up to Apple Pay

(18 September 2015 – United Kingdom) UK customers of Lloyds Banking Group can now make purchases with Apple Pay, albeit two months after the service was launched.

The announcement by means customers of Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland can add virtual versions of their debit and credit cards to Apple Pay for making NFC-based transactions.

Apple’s mobile payment service became available in July on boarding the UK’s leading banking groups has proven to be a slow process. The technology powerhouse had trouble partnering with some large providers for launch, such as HSBC and First Direct, who were two weeks late.

Barclay’s has yet to provide access to Apple Pay’s service to its customers.

The key to mainstream adoption and success of mobile payment solutions for technology firms including Apple, Android Pay and Samsung Pay will heavily rely card issuers being on board and rolling out the service to their customers.
