UBank to offer mobile banking

(22 March 2010 – Australia) National Australia Bank subsidiary, UBank, has announced plans to offer mobile banking services later this year.Gerd Schenkel, general manager, UBank, said that moving to mobile is probably the next step for the online bank.

There will be a mobile platform created at some stage this year as UBank follows customer demand, however users should not however expect a cut down version of the UBank website for phones, Mr Schenkel noted.

Mr Schenkel stressed that UBank did not plan to migrate the website to a Blackberry or iPhone.

Instead UBank is trying to determine what banking activities customers want to perform from their phone, whether it was to enquire about their balance, or execute a transaction for example, Mr Schenkel added.

The bank said it would then develop a service to meet that requirement.

According Mr Schenkel said that the online organisation is now writing positive income, but it is still working toward becoming cash positive as a result of setting up the online bank.
