WBC/SGB Merger Hot Topic for Industry Briefing

Australia
East & Partners
Mergers & Acquisitions, Press Release

(11 June 2008 – Australia) East & Partners held their inaugural Banking Markets Briefing yesterday, 10 June. The changing banking landscape resulting from the proposed Westpac and St George merger proved to be a compelling topic.Robert Morgan, Head of Market Analysis, showed that according to the firm’s Business Banking Customer Satisfaction Monitor, maintaining St George’s market leading customer satisfaction will be a challenge for the merged entity.

St George’s Relationship Managers currently have low customer portfolio sizes ensuring that they can regularly service customers across all turnover segments.

However, Australia’s biggest bank elect will have more customers to serve which will compound the issue Westpac already faces in terms of getting its Relationship Managers regularly and frequently in front of its customers, particularly in the SME segment.

The event attracted an audience of analysts, media and a range of senior banking executives along with a significant number who dialled in from around Australia, Asia and even South Africa.

East & Partners will be holding Banking Market Briefings on the second Tuesday of each month at the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney at 10.30am. Attendance is welcome in person or via dial in facilities. The next briefings will be held on 8 July, 12 August and 9 September.
