Western Union rolls out online service

(6 October 2005 – Australia) Western Union has launched an online money transfer service in Australia. The company said the service had already been rolled out in the US, Canada, UK, Austria and Ireland, and that Australia was the first country in Asia Pacific to offer the service.

Western Union regional vice president of Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Michael Tauber, said the point of differentiation in the service was the instantaneous transaction.

“The beauty is a dollar can turn into a peso in a matter of minutes,” he said.

He said customers were able to track the status of their transaction and check country exchange rates.

Customer charges online and offline were the same and there were no fees on the receiving end, which depended on how much was transferred and to which country.

Western Union charges a notification fee of A$4.50 and transactions include a message charge of A$6.
