(31 May 2021 – United Kingdom) NatWest is the first bank to join the United Kingdom (UK) government’s Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME) climate campaign. The campaign is designed to encourage SMEs to pledge cuts to carbon emissions.

UK SMEs are urged to take practical steps in reducing their carbon emissions by half leading up to 2030 and to be net zero by 2050. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng have created this campaign and set up the UK Business Climate Hub as a central reference point for UK businesses.

Businesses can use this hub to locate practical tools, resources and advice to develop a long-term plan to tackle carbon pollution issues.

“As the leading bank in the UK for businesses, we want to encourage, enable and lead the way in helping small businesses transition to a net zero carbon economy” commented NatWest Group CEO, Alison Rose

“From our recent SME Recovery Report, we know SMEs have the opportunity to help the UK meet its net zero targets by reducing their carbon footprint significantly by 2030 through more sustainable business operating model” she also added

“Every step that a small business takes on their journey to net zero adds up – not only in protecting the health of the planet but also in future-proofing their business and encouraging new investment, new customers and new opportunities for growth” commented UK Government Prime Minister, Boris Johnson
