(29 May 2026 – Australia) CommBank has commenced testing of its new AI‑powered agentic assistant experience within the CommBank app, CommBank Companion.
The agentic tool is designed to enable business customers to access clearer, real‑time visibility of their cash flow including trends and projections.
Currently being tested with 10,000 business banking customers, Companion provides practical next steps when pressure or opportunity emerges, connecting customers to relevant support through a simple, conversational experience within CommBank’s secure App environment.
Companion is designed to work alongside existing service channels, delivering 24/7 insight into a business’s financial position so business owners can keep moving forward with greater confidence.
Adoption of AI tools, like Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, is now widespread in Australian enterprises with thousands of employees in a diverse range of industries including retail, professional services and banking using them. CBA says it expects intense competition from OpenAI and other technology giants as banking services move increasingly from in-person to AI-enabled agentic assistants.
