Barclays shifts focus to customer satisfaction

(15 June 2004 – UK) Britain’s third largest bank Barclays is reportedly set to axe 800 middle management jobs but hire 1000 new branch staff in a bid to improve customer service. The moves come as part of a major restructure of Barclays’ operations.

Barclay’s chief executive Roger Davis said customer satisfaction in the banking industry had been generally low and pointed to a lack of personal attention and a lack of feeling valued.

He said the bank felt the need to get customers back as the focus of the business.

According to reports, the bank is looking to strip staff from middle management functions such as human resources, IT and strategy and finance.

Many of the jobs due to be shed are currently vacant and the bank will attempt to relocate other staff.
