Bendigo branch network hits 300

Bendigo branch network hits 300

(10 June 2005 – Australia) The opening of Bendigo Bank’s new North Ryde branch in Sydney means the Victorian based community bank now has 300 branches across Australia. The bank said this marked a four fold branch expansion over the past ten years, half of which are locally owned and operated community branches.

Bendigo managing director Rob Hunt said the bank now had a significant branch presence, an ATM network exceeding 300, and an "excellent, customer friendly" internet and phone banking system.

He said Bendigo was becoming increasingly competitive and attractive to customers and that the bank would soon have one million customers.

"These numbers signal that we have the potential to become a meaningful force in retail banking," Hunt said.

He said expanding Bendigo’s distribution network had been a key aim when the one time building society became a bank in 1995.

"Our research then showed that customers felt the current banking system was focussed on its own objectives rather than those of customers or individual communities," Hunt said.

"Certainly we knew that our success was inextricably linked to the success of our customers and communities, so if we could assist the development and success of each community we would secure our own future success."

Hunt said he expected the Bendigo network to continue to grow by around 30 branches each year "for the foreseeable future".

"The prospects for our business are excellent as long as we continue to focus on producing good outcomes for our customers and communities," he said.
