Greater two-way business flows between Southeast Asia and the UK

(9 May 2018 – Global) United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Santander UK are partnering together to help SMEs expand from the UK into the ASEAN region and vice versa.

The collaboration will draw on the complementary skills such as local market knowledge and regional presence of both banks to help companies from their respective markets expand overseas.

In addition to being able to access each bank’s financial products and services, the SMEs will benefit from industry insights and business connections.

UOB’s Head of Group Foreign Direct Investment Advisory, Sam Cheong, said, “Our collaboration with Santander UK enables UK firms seeking new production or sales markets to navigate the complexities of doing business in one of the world’s most diverse regions. […] Together with Santander UK, we will focus on engaging businesses – from manufacturers to wholesalers and retailers – to help them seize the opportunities in the region.”

Head of Products and International Business at Santander UK, John Carroll, said, “We know from experience firms that export and trade international tend to be more confident and will benefit from additional opportunities. Through our strategic alliance with UPB, we will engage more SMEs in the UK, helping them to understanding the diverse economies and cultures of the region. This will help them to take advantage of the growing number of opportunities that exist.”
