HSBC names new Malaysian head of commercial banking

(8 July 2016 – Malaysia) HSBC has appointed veteran banker Andrew Sill as the new head of commercial banking in Malaysia.

HSBC said that Sill, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, would be responsible for commercial banking, global trade and receivables finance, and the global liquidity and cash management businesses.

Prior to joining HSBC, he was with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Malaysia where he was CEO. He joined RBS in 2000 and held various roles in Singapore and Malaysia.

HSBC said Sill reports regionally to Stuart Tait, the regional head of commercial banking, Asia-Pacific and in Malaysia to Mukhtar Hussain, CEO of HSBC Malaysia.

Hussain noted that commercial banking ‘remains at the heart” of HSBC’s identity, as the world’s leading trade and business bank.

“Malaysia continues to be a growth story for HSBC as one of Asia’s most dynamic economies.

“Andrew’s experience will be an asset to the management team. His knowledge of transaction banking and ties to the business community will be invaluable as we look to build strong and sustainable businesses that focus on the needs of our customers,” Hussain added.

Sil has been in the role for the last month, taking over from Mahbub Ur Rahman who had moved to Bangladesh as deputy chief executive officer (CEO) and country head of CMB.
