Key hire for StanChart’s Greater China Economic Research team

(21 April 2014 – Asia)  Standard Chartered Global Research announced two senior appointments, one within its leadership team and the other, a key hire to its Greater China Economic Research coverage.

Ding Shuang joined the bank as head of Greater China Economic Research in Hong Kong on 2 April and reports to David Mann, head Asia Economic Research.

In a statement, Standard Chartered said Shuang brings a wealth of macroeconomic research and policy experience.

He joins from Citigroup, where he was senior China economist for the past four years.

Prior to that, Shuang spent a decade at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C. where he was involved in cross country economic research, and development of policy and lending programmes.

He started his career as an economist in the People’s Bank of China in Beijing.

Meanwhile Marios Maratheftis becomes chief economist, Global with immediate effect.

As head of Economic Research, Maratheftis leads a team of 35 economists based in 12 countries.

He joined the Bank in March 2002 as an Economist and Senior FX strategist with Standard Chartered Bank in London.

Maratheftis has authored financial and academic articles and appears regularly in the international media.

He will continue to report to Dave Murray, head, Global Research, and is based in Dubai.
