NatWest trials biometric payment card

NatWest trials biometric payment card

(25 April 2019 – United Kingdom) NatWest is launching the UKs first biometric bank card which will allow customers to authorise payments over £30 – the current contactless card limit – with just their fingerprint.

Bank cards used in the trial will store information which means people can verify payments by placing their finger over a box on the card, which is then swiped at the till without the need for a PIN.

The pilot is taking place with 200 customers in Britain.

The bank has worked with Dutch digital security company Gemalto, along with Visa and Mastercard to bring the service to customers in the UK.
