Thai banks pay first dividends

(Thailand) - Three Thai banks have become the first commercial lenders to pay shareholders a dividend since the 1997 economic crisis. Siam City Bank, BankThai and Krung Thai Bank have all wiped out their accumulated losses, crystallised in the 1997 crisis, and are now able to pay dividends.

All three are expected to post higher operating profits for 2003.
