ANZ hit by email scam

ANZ hit by email scam

(Australia) ANZ has become the latest Australian bank to find itself targeted by an email scam after a website based in China tried to tempt customers into providing their internet banking details. The scam works by sending bank customers an email which contains a link to a hoax or ghost website located offshore.

St George, Commonwealth Bank and Westpac have all been targeted by similar schemes but this is the first time a bank has been attacked by China. The other email scams originated from the US.

ANZ said it had contacted the Australian Federal Police in a bid to have the hoax site shut down.
