ATM’ing the Middle Kingdom

(China) - NCR has won a US$14.4 million hardware and software deal with China Construction Bank (CCB) to deploy automated teller machines (ATMs) across China. Adding to its installed 8,000 ATMs, CCB is already one of the major providers in the financial self-service market and is looking to the new installations to deliver branch ability to provide services such as bill payment, Web advertising and smartcard applications across the self-service platform to customers.

The further attraction to the Bank lies in improving its card business generally, with increasing use of smart cards in the market the ATM becomes an important channel for smart card replenishment.

China has a total of some 50,000 ATMs nationally.
