Bendigo cards business moves to next level
(25th November 2003 – Australia) Bendigo Bank has become a full service provider of credit cards in its own right through becoming an acquirer of major card brands Bankcard, MasterCard and Visa.
Previously, the bank’s merchant acquiring was offered through St George as Bendigo was only a participating member of the Visa scheme.
Chief manager of Bendigo’s card business, Greg Devlin, said the move would lead to operating efficiencies, the passing on of the Reserve Bank’s credit card reforms, faster establishment of new merchant facilities, and end-to-end service control.
"Those benefits will be felt not only by our merchants, but by the communities in which they operate," Devlin said.
"We would expect the pricing benefits we can now deliver to result in more capital being retained by local businesses for spending within their community."
