Citigroup eyes the sub-continent for retail expansion
(28 April 2004 – India) Global banking power Citigroup has targeted India as a key expansion market for its retail operation following the bank’s impressive 45-50 percent operational growth there in recent times.
The bank has targeted a progressive growth strategy to lift its customer base to more than 10 million in 35 cities over the next two years.
Sarvesh Sarup, Citibank’s country business manager, says that India provided a great deal of opportunity and that the bank had barely scratching the surface so far.
"The most exciting times still lie ahead of us," he said.
Sarup said the bank would triple its CitiCard banking centres to more than 300.
