In a first, MUFG names two women to top executive ranks

(20 May 2016 – Japan) Japan’s largest bank by assets, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. (MUFG) has appointed two women to its top executive ranks.

The bank’s board named Suk Fun Ngan as co-general manager of the Hong Kong branch, and Ranjana Clark, the San Francisco-based head of transaction banking for MUFG's American unit.

Ngan has held various positions within the bank for over 30 years, while Clark joined California-based Union Bank, an MUFG subsidiary, in 2013. Before joining the Japanese bank, she held executive roles at PayPal and Western Union Co.

The move is a first for MUFG, who have trailed other Japanese organisations in adopting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's push to promote more women to senior positions.

Rivals Mizuho Financial Group Inc. and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. both promoted women to the executive-officer level within the past few years.
