Morschel joins ANZ board

(8 June 2004 – Australia) ANZ has appointed former director of Westpac John Morschel to its board of directors. Morschel is currently chairman of Rinker Group and is a director of Rio Tinto, Singapore Telecommunications and Tenix. He was formerly chairman of Leighton Holdings, CSR and Comalco.

He was managing director of Lend Lease from 1988 to 1995 and was managing director of MLC from 1984 to 1988.

His previous banking experience includes eight years as a director of Westpac, where he was also executive director responsible for wealth management and retail banking.

ANZ chairman Charles Goode said the bank was pleased to have someone of Morschel’s calibre and experience join the board.

"He brings with him the experience of being a director of major Australian and international companies and extensive experience in banking and financial services," Goode said.
