ANZ opens third office in China

(4 September 2006 – Australia) ANZ announced it will open a representative office in the city of Guangzhou, the capital of China’s Guangdong Province. The bank currently has branches in Beijing and Shanghai and has chosen to open an office in Guangzhou because the city represents an important centre for Australian businesses in China.

"We recognise the significant business opportunities available in one of China’s most affluent provinces and the importance of Guangzhou as a strategic trade hub between Australia and China," said ANZ managing director, Asia, David Hornery.

With offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the bank will be able to provide an extensive suite of products to its various clients in mainland China, Hornery added.

ANZ is the only Australian bank with branches in mainland China. It established its first representative office in Beijing 20 years ago. Its branch in Shanghai opened in 1993.
