Apple Pay coming to Australia via Amex

(28 October 2015 – United States) Following an earnings call Wednesday morning, Apple has announced that it will roll out Apple Pay beyond the U.S. and U.K in partnership with American Express (Amex).

Amex's global head of mobile products and payments, Tony Prentice, said Australian and Canadian customers will be able to use Apple Pay on iPhones, Apple Watch and iPad this year and in Spain, Singapore and Hong Kong in 2016.

"We believe it is critical to be on the forefront of seamless and innovative payment solutions for our card members and we are pleased to be able to deliver on that with Apple Pay," he said.

East & Partners’ merchant payment data shows that those businesses accepting AMEX and applying a surcharge to transactions has steadily increased from 73.1 percent in 2010/11 to 81.5 percent in 2013/14.
