Contactless cards light up

Contactless cards light up

(6 November 2009 – Global) Contactless payment cards are set to dominate the market place over time and Oberthur Technologies has released an illuminating card for consumers to feel more confident when using the technology. The Smart Lumiere card, available in dual contactless-EMV or pure contactless configuration, has a translucent plastic core, antenna and Illuminating light apparatus.

The card has been designed to provide customers with a visual sign to improve trust and signal that the contactless payment transaction has been completed.

Oberthur said that the group hopes to attract issuers by letting them customise the colour and sequence of the lights the card emits.

Frederic Chevreton, general manager, Payment Product Line, Card Systems, Oberthur, said that the Smart Lumiere provides both issuers and their cardholders with an innovative payment device and a strong message to encourage adoption of contactless payment.
