HSBC appoints investment head

(10 December 2010 – Australia) HSBC has appointed Geoffrey Pidgeon as Head of Global Investments in Australia. Mr Pidgeon was previously head of Wholesale Distribution in Global Investments for the group and in his new role will oversee HSBC’s wholesale wealth management business in Australia.

The bank said that its Global Investments business is a core part of HSBC Australia’s wealth management offering, bringing HSBC’s global asset management capabilities into Australia.

HSBC Bank Australia’s Head of Global Markets, Gavin Powell said that HSBC’s wealth management strategy is based on bringing the best of HSBC’s international investment management capabilities to Australian investors.

"With much of the emerging world benefiting from low levels of government and household debt and favourable demographics, these fast-growing markets represent a compelling investment opportunity for Australian investors.'

"Mr Pidgeon’s leadership experience and knowledge of the complex wholesale wealth management market will be critical to the business as HSBC seeks to strengthen its foothold in the wealth management sector," Mr Powell said.

Mr Pidgeon has more than thirteen years experience in the wealth management industry. Prior to joining HSBC, he spent five years at Macquarie Bank in Australia, most recently as head of retail sales for the Macquarie Funds Group. Before this, Mr Pidgeon worked for Rothschild Australia Asset Management.
