New GM announced for UBank

(9 July 2010 – Australia) Sam Plowman, executive general manager, Direct Banking, at the NAB, announced the appointment of Alex Twigg as general manager, UBank. Mr Plowman said, when announcing the appointment, that Mr Twigg boasted 20 years retail banking experience in the UK and Australia, including 10 years focused on leadership and development of online businesses.

During his career Mr Twigg has held a range of senior executive roles, including being a member of the launch team with Egg in the United Kingdom, being the creator of customer experience practice at Keane Inc in the USA, and most recently holding a range of senior roles at NAB, Mr Plowman said.

Mr Twigg has been a driving force behind the bank’s next generation platform through his role as head of delivery and innovation for UBank; he was the general manager of direct banking strategy & transformation; and most recently acted in the role of general Manager, UBank since March, Mr Plowman highlighted.

According to Plowman, the new general manager of UBank will be responsible for leading a team of 146 accomplished direct banking specialists to drive growth within the UBank business and will ‘continue delivering innovative online and telephone banking solutions to Australian consumers.’

Alex is an accomplished businessman with both domestic and international experience. His pragmatic leadership, results-driven approach and eye for innovation will be a true asset to the UBank team. Since Alex agreed to act in the role of general manager, UBank in March this year, he has demonstrated he has all the attributes and foresight required to take this business forward, Mr Plowman added.
