Swiss private banking firm appoints Australian team

(14 June 2016 – Australia) Zurich based private bank, Vontobel has appointed a former UBS executive to lead its expansion in to the Australian market, as part of a recent drive in the Asia Pacific region.

In order to drive this newest initiative forward the bank has installed a team of experienced private banking advisors in Zurich dedicated to serving this growth region.

The private bank’s new team is being led by Bernhard Breiter, who joined the Swiss bank at the beginning of June. With a decade and a half of experience working in the local market, Breiter is expected to build momentum for Vontobel rapidly.

Breiter will report to Alex Fung, Head of Vontobel Wealth Management Asia Pacific, who is based in Hong Kong.

He has spent 15 years at UBS covering the Australian market.

Together with two experienced employees with whom he already worked at UBS, it is expected that the new team will drive forward the expansion of Vontobel’s business with private clients from Australia.

Speaking on the appointment, Fung said “In view of the structure of the market and the rapidly expanding population, Australia offers excellent opportunities for global wealth managers in the future. With Bernhard Breiter and his team, we can make these solutions accessible to wealthy private investors in Australia.”

The appointment follows Vontobel expanding its Asia based team earlier this year with the hires of Joannes Ho as Executive Director and Christine Chen in the newly created senior relationship management role.
