World Bank on web

World Bank on web

(12 November 2009 – Global) Internet search engine Google is adding World Bank figures to the internet. The move is in a bid to make hard facts about countries more accessible and easier to find.

Currently, the internet giant has a ‘public data’ feature which was launched about six months ago; the detailed site is continually updated with information on US population and employment.

Now when searching for information on countries the top links will direct you to the World Bank data presented in charts for easy comprehension.

Ola Rosling, search team product manager, Google, said that currently there is a lot interest in results for those that want to get to the raw data and not interpretations of the data.

Ms Rosling added that this is a first baby step toward solving the enormous problem of making numbers easier to find.

Google’s plan is to add a huge amount of sources, eventually having all of these data sources well organised, Ms Rosling concluded.
