1000 Tesco Bank jobs up for grabs

1000 Tesco Bank jobs up for grabs

(29 October 2009 – UK) UK retailer Tesco has 1000 customer service jobs available in line with the opening of a new customer services centre in Newcastle. The centre, which will manage customer sales and service for Tesco Bank will start early next year, with the first 500 positions set to be filled by the end of 2010.

The regional development agency One North East has provided a £2 million (A$3.65 million) grant to support the move. The roles are being created as part of Tesco Bank’s general insurance partnership with Fortis UK.

The supermarket rebranded its personal finance unit to Tesco Bank last month as part of an aggressive push to take on traditional high street players.

The bank has already outlined future plans to create 200 jobs at its Edinburgh headquarters this year and will be recruiting a further 800 jobs at a new customer service centre in Glasgow.

Andrew Higginson, chairman, Tesco Bank said that Tesco is aiming to build a different kind of bank. One that listens to customers, offers simple and transparent products and rewards loyalty.

The new customer service centre will help provide Tesco Bank’s banking and insurance customers with the same service they receive in the retail stores, added Mr Higginson.
