18th Irish ATM stolen

18th Irish ATM stolen

(15 December 2009 – Europe) An Irish ATM network operator, Link, has offered a £25,000 (A$44,000) reward to anybody with information that leads to the arrest of criminals using a mechanical digger with a telescopic arm to rip out ATM machines in Northern Ireland. Local police have said that they are following ‘definite lines of inquiry’ in pursuit of the criminals.

But local independent retailers have said that this is not enough and have called for the creation of an ATM crime task force after the 18th incident of its kind in the last few months.

Glyn Roberts, Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association said that serious questions need to be asked as to why the police have failed to arrest the gang behind this latest spate of attacks.

It seems that the criminal gangs behind these robberies can strike at will in any of the local towns and villages in Northern Ireland, Mr Roberts added.
