Advice at hand for SMEs

Advice at hand for SMEs

(16 June 2009 – Australia) At the request of small business organisations at a Federal Government roundtable earlier this year, fact sheets on loans and debt have been produced by the ABA. The Australian Bankers’ Association (ABA) and CPA Australia have partnered to provide small businesses with information on applying for loans and how to deal with debt in the current tough environment.

The pair said that the information outlined in two detailed fact sheets was sought by representatives from small business organisations following the roundtable earlier this year.

The Federal Government roundtable featured banks, small business organisations as well as other business and industry groups.

The first fact sheet, applying for a loan, details how small to medium businesses can prepare for the bank finance application process and how to approach a bank for a loan.

The fact sheet was produced in combination with CPA, recognising the role accountants play in advising small business people on many aspects of their finances.

The second fact sheet, dealing with debt, looks at how banks can help if small businesses are experiencing financial difficulties.

David Bell, chief executive of the ABA, said that the ABA listened to the concerns of small businesses and heard that they wanted some detailed information on how to apply for a loan and also how banks would assist customers in financial difficulties.
