ANZ appoints Pacific CEO
(4 August 2010−Global) ANZ has appointed Shane Freeman as the new chief executive officer of the bank’s Pacific south east and Vanuatu banking operations.
In his new role as CEO Mr Freeman is responsible for ANZ’s businesses in New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga, the Cook Islands and Vanuatu.
Mr Freeman was part of the team charged with integrating the Royal Bank of Scotland businesses brought by the bank into six Asian markets and has also spent time working in Bangalore running ANZ’s operations centre.
The bank’s chief executive, Mike Smith, said that the Pacific has emerged from the worst of the financial crisis in reasonable shape but there is now a clear opportunity to capitalise on Asia’s emergence as the world’s economic growth engine.
