ANZ automation to affect jobs

ANZ automation to affect jobs

(14 July 2009 – Australia) A change in ANZ’s mortgage processing will affect nearly 250 jobs nationally, as operations move to full automation. The bank’s state-based mortgage fulfilment centres are to be consolidated, with offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart closing.

This previous, state-based processing of mortgage documents will be centralised in Melbourne, creating about 45 head-office jobs.

The move to full automation is a move towards a level playing field, technology wise, with its Australian counterparts.

About 40 jobs will be relocated to ANZ’s offshore centre in Bangalore, India, which has led ANZ to activate the $10 million program it jointly announced with the Finance Sector Union last month to retrain employees affected by the practice of offshoring.

Also, 150 workers are expected to be absorbed by two external service providers, one of which is reportedly Perpetual, which will undertake the document processing, while the other will be a custody specialist role.
