ANZ expands Visa Debit

(15 February 2010 – Asia) ANZ and Visa have signed a deal to expand Visa Debit use across Asia and the Pacific. Announced last week, the five-year Visa-exclusive deal continues to build on the current collaboration between ANZ and Visa which began in Australia and New Zealand in 2005.

The ANZ Visa Debit card will be introduced progressively to ANZ customers in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Kiribati, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Tonga during 2010.

Alex Thursby, chief executive officer, Asia Pacific, Europe and America, ANZ, said that the bank is pleased to expand its strategic partnership with Visa across Asia Pacific to meet the needs of customers.

ANZ sees the Visa Debit expansion as an example of the bank’s commitment to provide customers with global, quality products and services as ANZ aims to become a super regional bank, Mr Thursby added.

Rahul Khosla, head of products, Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, Visa, said that consumers the world over are looking for modern, secure and convenient ways to pay with their own money and Visa Debit meets this need.

As ANZ continues its expansion strategy in Asia Visa expects it will play an important role in helping to build ANZ’s brand and presence in the region, Mr Khosla added.
