ANZ offers FX ATMs

(30 August 2010 – Australia) ANZ today announced that it has installed two ANZ Foreign Exchange ATMs at Melbourne airport, following a successful pilot to test the popularity of the service among ATM users in Melbourne and Sydney’s central business districts. ANZ is the first major Australian bank to offer ATM users the ability to withdraw foreign cash via an ANZ ATM.

The specially designed ATMs can dispense foreign currency up to a customer’s daily ATM withdrawal limit (usually A$1,000) in US dollars, NZ dollars, British pounds and Euro.

ANZ Head of ATMs Danielle Curry said offering people the option of withdrawing foreign cash via an ANZ ATM demonstrated ANZ’s commitment to making banking simple and convenient.

Our research showed that travellers often leave getting foreign currency to the last minute, or when they arrive at their destination. ANZ Foreign Exchange ATMs are open 24/7 in key locations and help people who are travelling so they are not caught without the right currency in their wallet, Ms Curry said.

Ms Curry said that there were no surprises using the machines.

We offer a competitive exchange rate and low fee which is displayed before you proceed with the withdrawal and customers know exactly how much their foreign cash will cost in Australian dollars at the time of the withdrawal, Ms Curry added.

Results from the pilot showed the US dollar was the most popular currency withdrawn during the pilot period, followed by the NZ dollar, Euro and the British pound. Most users withdrew foreign cash on Fridays.
