ANZ on Targett with key appointment

(30 March 2004 – Australia) ANZ has prised Steve Targett from Lloyds TSB, appointing him as group managing director of the bank’s Institutional Financial Services. Targett replaces Bob Edgar who became the bank’s chief operating officer last October. He will take up the reins on 1 July 2004 and will report directly to ANZ chief executive John McFarlane.

Targett will preside over ANZ’s institutional financial services area, covering Institutional Banking, Foreign Exchange, Capital Markets, Corporate Financing and Advisory, Structured Finance International and Transaction Services.

Targett has been group executive director, Wholesale and International Banking at UK bank Lloyds TSB since 2003, and had responsibility for National Bank of New Zealand, which was purchased by ANZ from Lloyds TSB late last year.

He previously worked for ANZ as general manager of the bank’s Japanese operation, and as general manager, Financial Markets (Australia), among other senior management roles.

ANZ CEO John McFarlane said Targett’s role within the bank would be to "advance our cluster of market leading specialist institutional financial services businesses around the needs of our customers at low risk".
