ANZ opens first affluent Asian branch

(20 November 2009 – Asia) ANZ has relocated its Beijing branch to new premises in China Central Place (CCP) and is the first of many affluent branches to be launched across Asia. The Beijing branch office occupies more than 2,000 square meters of space, can accommodate more than 100 staff and is located on 32 floor of the CCP.

The new ANZ retail branch is located on the ground floor and is the prototype of the new affluent retail brand which will soon be launched across Asia.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, Alex Thursby, chief executive officer, ANZ Asia Pacific, Europe and America, said that the bank is delighted to open a fresh new branch environment for ANZ’s customers in Beijing, the political, cultural and economic heart of China.

Mr Thursby added that the bank’s investment in such a high-quality environment is a demonstration of ANZ’s commitment to China.

The bank will also be opening a sub-branch next year in line with the bank’s organic growth strategy in China.

ANZ aims to offer customers an ‘uncomplicated’ and ‘people-shaped’ banking experience by providing simple and reliable products and wants to take the time to understand the bank’s customers, Mr Thursby added.

ANZ’s new look consists of a modernized, simplified ANZ word-mark and a new symbol to give customers, staff and the community throughout the region a way to recognise and connect with ANZ including countries where non-English characters are used.

ANZ has three branches in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, a rural bank in Liangping county, Chongqing, as well as strategic partnerships in two of China’s key growth regions giving the bank a 19.9 percent stake in the Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank and a 20 percent stake in the Bank of Tianjin.
