ANZ push into China with new head
(12 January 2009 – China) As part of its plan to become a super regional bank and specifically to focus on China, ANZ has named a new face to head up operations in the country.
ANZ has named Christine Ip to the position of chief executive of ANZ Bank's China operations, with immediate effect and subject to regulatory approval.
ANZ’s North East Asia chief executive, Alistair Bulloch, said that the bank’s goal is to become a top-four foreign bank in China.
Further, Bulloch said that Ip will be responsible for building the bank’s institutional banking capabilities, growing their retail presence and leveraging their partnerships with Bank of Tianjin and Shanghai Rural Commercial Bank.
Ip joins ANZ from Standard Chartered Bank, where she most recently oversaw consumer banking for China.
Ip replaces Andrew McGregor, who will retire after his 41-year career with the bank.
