ANZ to drop M-Banking

ANZ to drop M-Banking

(22 April 2010 – Australia) Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has sent a letter to customers spelling the end of its mobile banking service M-Banking, attributing the decision to the small number of internet banking users engaging with the feature. The bank confirmed yesterday that it will be discontinuing M-Banking from May 14, saying that very low use and the fact that customers can access the main functions offered by M-Banking through other existing services, such as TXT Banking, ANZ Internet Banking and Phone Banking, which ANZ said are more widely used by the bank’s customers, are the reasons behind the decision.

A spokesperson for the bank said that major advances in smartphones over the last few years also meant that ANZ’s customers now want a service that is simpler and more useful than its current M-Banking service.

M-Banking is a Java applet that increasingly works on fewer handsets, the spokesperson added.

Whilst ANZ has decided to remove its M-Banking service, the bank has said it is also investing in future enhancements to its mobile banking services that will deliver customers an even better experience.

The bank’s spokesperson assured customers that they would still be able to receive account balances and mini-statements on their mobile phone via ANZ TXT banking.
