ANZ to get new home in 2009

(27 September 2006 – Australia) ANZ has announced it will purchase and then develop the country’s largest office building which is located on Melbourne’s Yarra River in the fast growing Docklands area of the city. Development of the 87,000 square metre site will be carried out with Lend Lease and cost around A$478 million. It is expected to be completed in the second half of 2009 and house up to 5,500 staff.

ANZ said the building would reflect its "progressive culture and values" by including a crèche, gymnasium, and retail and food outlets.

The bank said it reviewed more than 50 proposals from local and international property groups before settling on the Lend Lease bid.

ANZ chief executive John McFarlane said the development made strong financial sense, allowing the bank to consolidate many of its Melbourne properties and creating greater collaboration between ANZ’s businesses and staff.

"It will be an inspiring, environmentally efficient workplace that will help us build on our leading levels of staff engagement," he said.

ANZ will be the third of the "Big Four" Australian banks to get a new home in recent times following National Australia Bank’s move to the same part of Melbourne in 2005 and Westpac’s relocation to its new Sydney HQ this year.
