ASBFEO inquiry into affordable capital for SMEs

ASBFEO inquiry into affordable capital for SMEs

(4 April 2018 – Australia) The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman has launched an inquiry into initiatives to provide affordable capital for SMEs.

The ‘Affordable Capital for SME Growth’ inquiry will investigate a range of international initiatives such as the British Business Bank and the US Department of the Treasury’s Small Business Lending Fund that seek to address the funding gap for SMEs.

“The inquiry will examine Australian initiatives where the government shares the lending risk, and state/territory initiatives to support small business start-ups and growth,” Ombudsman Kate Carnell said.

The ASBFEO’s new inquiry follows the federal government’s plan for an inquiry into impediments to business investment, in a bid to boost economic growth from the private sector.
