ATM scam man pleads guilty

(Australia) A man who robbed $623,426 by placing a skimming machine in ATMs belonging to Commonwealth, St George and Westpac banks has pleaded guilty in the NSW District Court. The scheme consisted of placing a device inside the ATMs to record card information and a camera that filmed people punching in their personal identification numbers.

Police said the scam, which affected the accounts of 315 Sydney customers, was the first time such a device had been used in Australia.

So far, police have recovered just $34,800 of the stolen money.
